Gulf Oil Spill Claims

Due to recent developments in settling claims related to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, many businesses and individuals may now qualify for reimbursement from BP. Even if you did not qualify or your claim was denied under the previous rules used by the Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF), you may now be eligible.

Two types of claims, with which we are assisting clients and others, are:

  1. Business Economic Loss/Loss of income: This claim might arise due to a decline in income from a rental property or a business. Many businesses which had claims denied or reduced under the previous GCCF rules may qualify. This is because the methodology now used in computing a loss is more liberal than the GCCF allowed, and more types of industries are included.
  2. Coastal Real Property/Loss of use: You may be eligible to file a claim for restrictions on usage of your waterfront property. The claim amount is based on the property's 2010 county appraised value times a designated percentage which varies depending on location.

All claim forms have been released and are available to file immediately. If you have questions about whether you might qualify
for a payment, please contact Alex Martin at alexm@csbcpa.com or Morgan Prestwood at morganp@csbcpa.com
or call (251) 343-1012 for assistance in accumulating the data necessary to file a claim.
